- "one is as old as one's arteries" is a saying in the medical world. So if we keep our arteries healthy we'll be healthy. Exercise will keep them primed.
- More blood supply - The parts of the body that we exercise need more oxygen and hence more blood. The body enables this by creating more blood capillaries.
- Stronger Heart - Heart is a muscle. Any muscle gets stronger as it is exercised better. Running, Swimming, Cycling are some good cardiovascular exercises that helps build a stronger heart.
- Lower Blood pressure - Regular exercise has the potential to reduce blood pressure by about 10mmHg.
- Lower Resting Heart Rate - Regular exercise reduces resting heart rate as a single beat of the stronger heart is able to pump more blood (and oxygen) to the body. {The resting heart rate for (i) a normal person is 60-80 beats per minute (bpm), (ii) sedentary over-weight person could be more like 100 bpm whereas (iii) a top athlete is 24-40 bpm}
